CFBG Record Store Day: SwitchBlade 85

Apr 24th, 2012 | By | Category: Sounds

Fun Fact on Record Store Day: bands can play as cover-band versions of themselves.

Switchblade 85 brought 1,000 cc’s of hard rain on CFBG for Record Store Day. …excuse me, I mean “Kool and the Switchlade” or “HalenBlade 85” or whatever moniker to celebrate the fact that  Kool and the Gang and Van Halen were literally two blocks up at the Coliseum. Turns out, these dudes were merely a Switchblade cover band… Freddy Papercuts made a fair attempt at the essence of Johnny Stabwound on drums, but was a bit focused on Barbara during “Invasion at the Drive-in.”

So much happened on Saturday that I missed Pistol Crash and Bronzed Chorus.

I popped in to CFBG around Noon. They had a line waiting at 11am and were already out of most exclusive releases. Crazy. I totally figured the crowds would come more around 2pm-4pm. But I [and CFBG] were wicked wrong. It was all-in-all rad this year, it’ll be on point come 2013.

More photos from RSD coming soon, check back!
